Low Light Defensive Shooting

Class Details

This four to five hour (all range) class introduces the student to the difficulties encountered when trying to engage threats defensively during low-light or no-light conditions. Participants will become acquainted with:

  • Night sights for handguns
  • Handheld flashlight design & selection
  • Handheld flashlight shooting techniques
  • Weapon mounted systems & techniques
  • Identifying & engaging threats in low-light/no-light environment
  • Proper use of ambient light, back lighting and strobe lighting
  • Movement & lighting techniques
  • Brief discussion of lasers and optics

Prerequisites:

(requires at least one of the following)

  • Successful completion of a Texas LTC course
  • Military pistol qualification within the last two years (must present DD214)
  • Attended and passed the NRA basic Pistol course or equivalent professional handgun training course
  • Minimum of two hours of private handgun instruction with Hold the Line instructor

A daylight shooting assessment drill will be conducted from the 7 yard line with 25 rounds to determine the skill level of participants. Although students will not be turned away additional training may be administered at the time of assessment.

Participants - 10 students (max)
Course of Fire - 200 rounds
Required Gear - Handheld flashlight (tactical preferred) with rear or side on/off switch, flashlight holder (belt clipped), weapon mounted light as optional, semi-auto handgun or revolver with 3 extra magazines or speed loaders, magazine holster, strong-side (outside the waistband) holster with retention device, ammunition, hearing and eye protection.
